Fast Car Magazine February 99

In 1998 England went to France with 22 men and came home with, F**K ALL......Dimma went with just two but they've got this beauty to boast mate!

It's true you know; our national football team went on a serious mission to France in the hope of once again bringing back the World Cup, a mere 32 years after the first time!  The result.....NUFFINK! Funnily enough, in late January '98 Terry and Steve from Dimma UK only went skiing, rather than footballing. but even though they got pissed they also found time to visit the Peugeot Factory.

There they saw the World Rally Car in all its splendour and instantly flew back with some BIG ideas! Now the goal-posts had been set, Steve's Dimma 306 was sold on to finance the new 106 Maxi project .  Thing is the donor 106 Rally was already on order from Peugeot Sport, going back to January '98. February saw its delivery; the Rally 106 coming with a close ratio gearbox, high ratio steering rack and 105bhp as standard! Steve only smoked the boggo Rally for a week, then totally stripped it! Dimma UK actually sort the kits on the WRCs, but many criteria have to be fulfilled like the wheel size and massive suspension travel, for instance!  This is where the promo car differs, with no less than 500 man-hours being spent to change the shape to make it road spec, especially in looks.  That does include the paint job though, which is an upside down 306 WRC theme - all in paint not vinyl!

Kit on Kit off Kit on Kit off Kit off Kit

While the kit was laid-up in moulds drying they saw the ideal moment had arrived to fit a shed-load of Panasonic ICE.  What a move.  How many ICE installers would jump at the chance of fitting up a motor while completely stripped?  This also meant thing like the tastydoor-builds could be fabricated at leisure,  all ready to be covered once the professional upholsterers were allowed loose inside.

Hour for hour, Dimma had their kit on 'n' off fifty times more than England during the World Cup and proved their professional ability even more so.  Once they were happy with the final fit, the kit was removed just once more for spraying, assembly and final touching up!

Just like the UK squad at the start of the World Cup, the 106 body was now in satisfactory trim, waiting for suspension and wheels to complete the job.  Of course Dimma's own 8 x 17in five-spokes dressed in A520 Yokohamas were a must.  After all, this is their promo car! The 50mm drop is courtesy of Spax, with the springs matched to Peugeot's own progressive suspension.  This is the same design as the 306 WRC spec.

Over the years, Dimma have boasted many a powerful lump - from turbos to Cossie implants - but the 106 has barely been breathed upon, just a brief development session with K+N for a filter and Mongoose for a stainless exhaust system.  All this subsequently brings 130bhp and 7500rpm.

The carpet and dials, however, stay in its standard factory Pug blue which nicely matches the Cobra interior decor.  Imola carcasses covered in black leather and blue alcantara set the theme, spreading over the door builds, rear swabs and panel trims with a matching snap-on Dimma steering wheel.

Steve reckons he's never been talked about so much!
